Alto Notebook Stand - for Comfortable Computing

The small size of a laptop may feel great when you have to haul it through the airport, walking up and down the staircases, etc. Anyway, hunching over that petite PC for hours may lead to neck aches – or hand cramps from the compact. It can also be a bit hard on your eyes and back if it’s not set-up properly.

While most laptops can be connected to a docking station or bigger monitor, Logitech is now releasing another option for notebook owners, the Alto Notebook Stand ($100; Jan. 07). The Logitech Alto portable notebook stand lets you anchor a laptop at eye level and work more comfortably at a table or desk.

The Alto features a fold-out design that provides a full-size USB keyboard and a USB hub on one side, and an angled notebook stand on the other side — providing relief for your hands with the keyboard, and relief for your neck, eyes, and back with the stand. This notebook-stand also includes extra programmable keys for things like starting programs or controlling the computer’s volume. It folds up to be quite portable, making it great for travel.

The Alto flips open for instant use on almost any flat surface, and folds down to a compact size for easy transport and storage. Also, the keyboard folds up over the notebook when in the stand to free up space.

A USB port is required to connect the Alto to the laptop, but a small hub built into the stand provides three more USB 2.0 ports for use in connecting other devices.

It works with most Windows and Mac OS X laptops weighing less than 4kg. When not propping up your portable, the Alto folds down to about 22 x 43cm and less than 4cm thick. Then, unlike a desktop computer, it can be shoved out of sight.
